St Johnstone have been hit with an 18,000 euros Uefa fine after a fan displayed a Palestinian flag at one of their Europa League games.
A match delegate spotted the East Stand banner being waved during the 2-1 defeat from Spartak Trnava at McDiarmid Park.
Celtic and Irish side Dundalk have also found themselves in hot water with the Swiss-based authorities.
A St Johnstone spokesman said: “We have been told by Uefa that we’ve been fined for the display of a Palestinian flag and pro-Palestine chanting at our game with Spartak Trnava.
“We’ve asked them for a written judgment on this and are waiting for it to arrive.
“Obviously it’s disappointing that this has happened but we need to see what the actual case is before commenting further.”
The fine has been handed out by Uefa’s control, ethics and disciplinary committee.
Uefa rules prohibit messages of a political and ideological nature being displayed in any football stadium.
Dundalk have already indicated they intend to challenge the 18,000 euros fine after Palestinian flags were paraded at their Europa League tie against Hajduk Split.
Reports in Ireland confirm Dundalk have been stunned by the severity of the fine and have sought advice from the Football Association of Ireland to back their appeal.
The Uefa sanction against Celtic is the latest in a long line imposed on the Glasgow club, with a huge banner depicting Bobby Sands and William Wallace resulting in a 50,000 euros fine last year after a home Champions League match with AC Milan.
